The Cohen A Boys and Girls Basketball Teams qualified for the Eastern Maine Middle School League playoff Thursday afternoon. The schedule is listed below:
A Boys vs. Reeds Brook – 5:00 p.m. at William S. Cohen
A Girls vs. Bucksport – 4:00 p.m. at Bucksport
Congratulations to the Cohen A Cheerleaders for earning second place at the Bucksport Invitational Tournament! The A Cheerleaders will complete again on Saturday, February 4th at Bangor High School
The Math Counts team at William S. Cohen earned 2nd place at Saturday’s competition behind Conners Emerson School (Bar Harbor). During the final round, the top ten students from the day’s events met in the Countdown Round. Three students from Cohen qualified for that round – the most from any school in the competition. The team qualified for the state Math Counts competition.
The William S. Cohen School held its annual National Geography Bee competition on Thursday, January 12th in the school’s auditorium. More than 40 participants qualified for the final round. Student participants had to qualify for this level of competition in the preceding and very challenging classroom-based competition. After a very intense contest, 8th grader Jonny Lyon finished in first place. 7th grader Kossi Ifeji came in a close second after many thrilling rounds. As the school-wide winner, Jonny will take a qualifying exam for the state-wide competition to be held on March 1st at the University of Maine in Farmington. Congratulations to Jonny and Kossi and to all of the students who participated in this year’s Geography Bee.
The Crosstown Hoops event will take place Wednesday, January 25th at the William S. Cohen School. The event will showcase basketball and cheering teams from both the William S. Cohen School and James F. Doughty School. Here is the game schedule for this exciting event:
Girls B: 3:00 p.m.
Boys B: 4:30 p.m.
Girls A: 6:00 p.m.
Boys A: 7:30 p.m.
Bangor High School (BHS) will host a Parent Information Night for parents and students transitioning to BHS next fall. The meeting will take place Tuesday, January 10th at Bangor High School’s Peakes Auditorium from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Following an overview of BHS programs, parents and students will have the opportunity to ask questions, tour the building and participate in informational sessions about BHS Academies ( STEM, Fine Arts, Business, Humanities).
