The Downeast Institute brought the ocean right to the Abraham Lincoln School with an incredible touch tank experience, giving students a hands-on look at Maine’s fascinating marine life. Students got to gently explore a rare blue lobster, sea stars, watch a curious hermit crab peek out of its shell, feel the smooth spiral of periwinkles, and learn about blue mussels that help keep our waters clean. A huge thank you to the Downeast Institute for inspiring our young ocean explorers and bringing science to life! #WeAreBangor

Bangor School Garden Summer Volunteers Needed!

The Bangor School Department invites students, families, staff, and community members to become Bangor School Garden Summer Volunteers. Students plant and care for our school gardens during the school year, but we need community support during the critical summer growing months to help the gardens thrive. Volunteering is a wonderful opportunity for adults and children alike to spend time outdoors, connect with nature, learn about gardening and pollinators, harvest fresh produce, and help maintain vibrant outdoor learning spaces for students to return to in the fall.

Summer volunteers commit to caring for a school garden for a one-week interval (or more!) between June 22 and August 30. Volunteers are asked to visit the garden at least twice during their selected week(s) to help with watering and weeding. Some gardens may also offer produce to harvest and enjoy at home.

No prior gardening experience or volunteer training is required. Interested volunteers can sign up using the link below, where you will also find contact information for each School Garden Coordinator who can answer questions and provide additional guidance for each school garden.

The Abraham Lincoln School Kindness Club recently hosted a heartwarming event focused on three powerful feelings that impact us all: security, comfort, and loneliness. Students turned empathy into action by organizing and assembling meaningful donations for local community organizations:

They created supply bags for residents of the Shaw House who are experiencing homelessness — helping provide a sense of security and care.
They lovingly made tie blankets for students who may find themselves at St. Joseph’s Emergency Room, offering warmth and comfort during difficult moments.
They painted beautiful flower vases and organized a napkin drive for residents of the Phillip Strickland House, gathering over 150 colorful packets of napkins thanks to the generosity of students and their families.

We are so proud of our compassionate students and grateful for the leadership of Mrs. Rand, whose dedication continues to inspire kindness.

May the kindness shown by our Abraham Lincoln School community spread exponentially throughout our city and beyond!

During teacher appreciation week, Abe Lincoln teachers have competed in creative, fun, and sometimes hilarious challenges to win extra goodies for their classrooms. From dancing challenges to bold “outwit, outplay, outlast" secret treat antics, the spirit of friendly competition is alive and well!

Today, Ms. York bravely accepted the challenge to “Contact Local Media” and she delivered BIG! WABI broadcast live from her classroom, capturing the excitement and even interviewing a few of her students. The best part was hearing students share why they love their class and their teacher.

A huge thank you to our PTO and the local businesses who made this possible.
